Why Running Slower Is Usually Better

Running is a great way to trim down and get in shape, no matter what. However, if you are looking for better gains over the course of a longer period of time, running slowly might be the best solution.

There are a few reasons why running slower is better for the average person. Firstly, it’s more enjoyable. You are not pushing yourself or constantly focusing on keeping pace, rather, you are enjoying your workout.

This is especially true when you are running outside. You get to take in your surroundings and enjoy the weather, instead of focusing on speed.

It is also better for burning calories. You don’t really start burning serious calories until you have hit about the 30-minute mark of your cardio workout. And running slowly, allows you to run for longer periods of time without getting fatigued.

This also improves your confidence. When you are able to run slowly for a longer time, you feel much prouder of your accomplishment then when you are able to run only five or ten minutes at a faster pace.
