Walking Just Two Minutes A Day Can Help Sedentary People


A study has shown that people who sit all day, whether at work or at home, can offset the negative effects of such a sedentary lifestyle by simply walking two minutes every day. Recent studies showed that extremely low intensity activities like standing just won’t cut it.

However, walking for just two minutes every hour you are sitting can really make a difference. Of course, sedentary life styles are predominant in Western society today, especially in America. According to studies, more than 80 percent of Americans do not meet the regular requirement of committing 2.5 hours of their time a week to exercise. Sitting so much has been shown to lead to early death, heart disease and diabetes.

A recent study by the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology showed that while standing for two minutes during every hour of sitting won’t help much, replacing standing with light activity such as walking that two minutes each hour can definitely help.
