Celebrity Fitness Chain “Soulcycle” Is Going Public

This fitness firm is very popular among A-list celebrities like Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise and David Beckham, who have all attended its classes. Started in 2006 by Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice, it now has 36 studios and plans on raising up to $100 million, according to the initial estimate.

The point of the programme is not about how much weight you lose – it’s about finding the strength to cope with everyday challenges, overcome obstacles and better yourself. Even though it had a bit of an ‘underground’ atmosphere, their plan is to spread. The majority of their current studios are in New York, with a presence in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Now they plan to open about 15 studios a year – until they have at least 250 in total. The two co-founders say they came up with the concept while searching for a fitness activity which didn’t feel like work. They admit all the celebrities have been a big factor in the club’s success, mostly by spreading the word about the classes.
