Your workouts are most effective when you are eating proper food before and after exercising. There are certain foods which are best to eat before and after workouts which can boost the impact of your session. Ask any bodybuilder or athlete, and they will always stress the importance of the correct food intake along with that of the exercises.

What To Eat Before Your Workout

  • Eat Carbs – whether you plan to concentrate on cardiovascular or muscle-building activities, eating foods full of complex carbohydrates such as rice and bread, whole-grain pasta, fruits and vegetables etc, which are rich sources of energy, will boost your workout. During workouts, your body burns carbohydrates initially and then gradually burns fat.
  • Small Meal an Hour Before – eat an easily digestible meal an hour before your workout. The meal should consist of complex carbohydrates, as such a meal enables you to carry on for a long time without feeling dizzy or experiencing low blood sugar levels.
  • Cut Sugar – avoid foodstuffs with simple sugars such as chocolate, as they can cause low blood sugar levels. They are definitely among the worst type of food to eat before and after workouts.
  • Keep Hydrated – a lot of people don’t drink enough water while exercising. Water is essential to regulate your body temperature for optimal performance, as well as providing resistance to injuries. Drink at least 20 ounces of water two hours before your workout session to hyper-hydrate the body, allowing enough time for hydration and urination.
