Jogging is inexpensive

Jogging is one of the most common forms of physical exercise. It is inexpensive and can be done almost anywhere. Many variations are possible – you can jog outside or inside, for a short distance or a long distance, moving relatively slowly (close to walking) or very quickly (close to running).

Yet beginners are advised to do some preparations before running and take certain precautions while running. Here are five tips for inexperienced joggers.

1. Footware

If you’ll be jogging on a regular basis, it is not wise to skimp on running shoes. Since you’ll be coming in contact with the ground – including uneven and very hard surfaces – thousands of times every time you jog, it’s important to ensure that each step is not doing damage.

A poorly designed or improperly fitted shoe can contribute to joint injury or muscle strain.

2. Warm up

It’s unwise to step out the door and immediately begin jogging, especially if it’s the first thing you do in the morning. That’s how muscles are strained. Take a few minutes to do some gentle stretching – such as bending or knee lifts – before getting your legs in motion.
